Posing for pictures with Insta-famous photographer Lafrohemien

Check out the pics this cool Ugandan photographer Sara Waiswa (Lafrohemien) took of me in the heart of Nairobi

I’ve always held the belief that the best thing about being a writer, is not having to worry about striking a pose in front of a camera. You can imagine my surprise when the talented photographer Sara Waiswa (@Lafrohemien) asked to take some pictures of me, which was a fun and worthwhile experience. I should also mention the request took place on the same afternoon I finally got to meet Michael Soi (I’ve always adored his work and was low-key excited).

That’s another story for another day!

A friend of mine had told me a little bit about Sara, who posseses many talents including the ability to be very diplomatic. A couple of askaris (guards) were on our backs for taking pics in the city center when we met for the shoot, but she handled the situation with such ease and flair.

Thank goodness we managed to get a few shots, because the askaris almost ruined our afternoon. Boo! Sara also took photos of Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def), when he came to town for the Hip Hop Rapsody event at Ebony last year. For now, check out some of the pictures of yours truly below. Dark chocolate on fleek!

FYI: Her images are featured in Fashion Cities Africa (2016) book, which I see New York Magazine covered recently.
