Vasco da Gama was the Portugese explorer who came to the Kenyan coast, but soon found out that it was an attractive base for other foreigners, especially the Arabs and later the British. I’m pretty sure you’ll agree Fort Jesus is still an attractive place for foreigners and locals to visit because of it’s interesting architecture and intriguing back story.
You don’t need me to recite the history lesson, just choose an afternoon to go and visit the fort, and you’ll see its magic.
Fort Jesus is well preserved and a UNESCO world heritage site, so take my word for it and just go! It’s only about KES 100 for Kenyan adults and affordable for foreigners.(Less than KES 1000 I believe).
Live and learn a little more about Kenyan history next time you’re at the coast.
